This page used to be an unfinished draft that ranked two apps and promised eight more. It has been rewritten, because a ranking is the least useful thing to publish here: the tools change every few months, and the properties that matter do not.
What follows are the four questions worth asking about any AI study tool, including this one.
1. Where does the material come from?
Tools split into two families. Some work from a shared library of content other people made; others work from your own notes, slides and PDFs. The second family is better when you are studying a specific course, because the questions on your exam come from your lecturer’s material rather than from a popular study set.
Zelvi is in the second family. Flashcards, quizzes, study guides and mind maps are built from what you upload, and when your institution uses Zelvi, from what your instructor published.
2. Can you check what it told you?
The single most useful property of a study tool is whether an answer can be traced back to a page. If it can, you can verify it in seconds and you learn where in your notes the idea lives. If it cannot, you are memorising something you cannot audit, and you will find out whether it was right during the exam.
3. Does it tell you when it has left your notes?
A tool that answers every question in the same confident voice gives you no way to know which parts came from your course. Being told “this part is beyond your course material” is genuinely useful information — it is the signal to check it, or to ask your teacher.
4. What does it cost once you use it properly?
Almost every tool in this category is free at low volume and paid at real study volume, and the free tier is usually sized to be enough to see the value and not enough to revise with. Ours works that way too, and it is worth saying plainly rather than advertising "free" and letting you discover the ceiling the night before a test.
On the free plan you get 15 tutor messages a day, five flashcard sets, five quizzes, three study guides, three mind maps and three uploads. Voice tutoring is on the paid plans only. Whatever tool you pick, find its ceiling before you depend on it.
